ABOUT IMAGINE Imagine is an all-styles music competition for young artists. At Imagine pop bands compete with metal bands, trance versus rock, jazz versus hip hop, classical versus ska, world versus punk, anything goes! For more than 20 years the Imagine concept has grown through the JMI network into a unique program that today takes in over 10 countries worldwide.

Imagine is:
A COMPETITION. Imagine is a series of all-style music competitions for young artists, currently held in 9 different countries around the world. Artists work their way up from local to regional to national levels of the competition and the best group/soloists from each country is selected to compete at the international Imagine Festival.

A CAREER DEVELOPMENT PLATFORM. Although recent do-it-yourself online promotion tools have opened the doors for independent young musicians to reach a wider audience, access to live audiences at larger events remains the exclusive domain of established artists with direct ties to the industry’s labels, bookers and promoters. Through professional performance opportunities, workshops and industry training, Imagine provides a platform for young musicians to launch their careers.

A YOUTH EMPOWERMENT & EXCHANGE PROGRAM. Imagine provides a unique opportunity for young people from across the globe to come together through music and engage in a positive musical activity characterised by respect, sharing and generosity, by inclusion not exclusion.

A PROGRAM of JMI. As a program of Jeunesses Musicales International (JMI), only members of JMI are entitled to undertake the Imagine program at a national and local level, including the use of the Imagine brand, logo, website and concept.

Imagine begins with a round of nation-wide local Preselections where artists compete live on stage for the chance to progress onto the Regional Finals or National Final stages of the competition. The number of Preselections held is most often determined by the budget of the organiser. In instances where there is not enough budget to carry out several Preselections an initial screening can be done via the Imagine Website, where musicians are able to submit MP3 recordings. The national Imagine organiser then draws the 10 best groups/artists (can be more) from the Preselections for the National Final where only one group or artist is chosen to represent their country at the International Final of the Imagine Festival.
